Stephen W. Lago

Stephen W. Lago, 69, of Wilkes Barre, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Commonwealth Health, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.


Born in Wilkes-Barre on January 17, 1955, he was the son of the late William and Mary Catherine Heffernan Lago.

 

Stephen was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School and had worked in the produce department of Sunshine Grocery for many years.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt with his friends. Stephen was a member of the North-End Slovak Club, Wilkes-Barre.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Evans; sister, Ann Burns and her husband, Francis Burns. 

 

Surviving are his sister, Linda Klein and her husband, Atty. Michael Klein, Mechanicsburg; sister-in-law, Pauline Evans, Plains; nieces Atty. Jennifer Bui and Tracy Fritzinger; nephews, Atty. Christopher Klein, Billy Evans, Charles Evans and Gregory Evans.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 16, 2024, at 10am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston.  The family will receive friends and relatives, in church, from 9am until time of mass.  Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.  Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, Pittston.

Whenever I've returned to the Valley, I always enjoyed seeing Steve at the Slovak Club. I will never foregot that laugh of his. He was a kind and friendly man. May he rest in peace.
