Samuel Joseph Chairge, Sr.

Samuel Joseph Chairge, Sr., 89, of Pittston, formerly of West Pittston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and grandchildren, at home on Saturday, November 25, 2023, just eight days after the passing of his wife, Shirley.

Born in Pittston on November 2, 1934, he was the son of the late Pasquale Joseph and Anna Musto Chairge.


He attended Pittston High School and was the owner/operator of Lee Sue Fashions, Jermyn. He was co-owner of the Village Craft Shop and operated the Italian Kitchen. He was a former president of the West Pittston Lions Club. Sam was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and bowler. His favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed going to the casino and painting, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.


In addition to his parents and wife, Shirley Bernardi Chairge, he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Carlene Chairge; brothers, Mickey, Godfrey, and Charles Chairge; sisters, Jean Chairge Jerrytone; Doris Chairge Luccino; Marie Chairge Guarniere, Josephine Chairge Rizzo and an infant sister.


Surviving are children, Sam Chairge and his wife, Rosemary, Bear Creek Twp.; Lisa Yurek and her husband, Frank, Wyoming; Suzanne Saville and her husband, Michael, Florida and Anthony Chairge and his wife, Kim, Bear Creek Twp.; grandchildren, Deanna Appleton (Richard); Tyler Saville (Nia); Ashlee Yurek; Jordan Saville (Danielle); Kara Kohler (Arthur); Samantha Slater (Brandon) and Frank Yurek III; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.


The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, December 1, 2023, from 8:15am-9:30am in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am.Interment, West Pittston Cemetery.Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, Pittston.
