Mary Ann Lawler Hines, 77, of East Stroudsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, in the loving arms of her daughters, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus, Easton, PA.
Born in Pittston, PA, on August 31, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Thomas M. Lawler, Sr. and Helen Marie (Murphy) Lawler.
Mary Ann graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree of education from Marywood University and her master’s degree in the same field from East Stroudsburg University.
Born and raised on William Street in Pittston, Mary Ann met the love of her life, Gerard (Jerry) A. Hines whom she married at St. John The Evangelist in Pittston on July 17, 1971. Mary Ann and Jerry moved to East Stroudsburg in 1972. She began teaching middle school reading at the Stroudsburg Area Middle School where she retired after 40 years of service as a reading specialist. She dedicated her life to her students, children, and grandchildren. During her retirement years, she enjoyed time in the sun, especially floating on her raft in the family pool while reading a good book. Mary Ann enjoyed family gatherings with her in-laws, warm destination vacations, and gardening. She loved a good cup of coffee in the morning with her dog Coffee always closely nearby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years in 2016; and her sister, Ellen M. Lawler in 1998.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ann Hines (Adam Semitekol), Vienna, VA, and Mary Eileen Hines, East Stroudsburg; grandchildren, Riley Ellen Wurz, Morgan Mary Wurz, and Isabella Semitekol; brother, Thomas M. Lawler (Laura), Alexandria, VA; and a large extended family of brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and cousins, and her dear friend, Carol Yanovitch, Marshalls Creek.
The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, December 2, 2024, from 4pm-7pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery immediately following the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Notre Dame Elementary School, 60 Spangenburg Ave., East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
