Mary Alice Mazzarella, 88, of Exeter, peacefully passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Heston and Ida Vitale Heston. Mary Alice was a graduate of Wyoming High School, Class of 1954, and Nesbitt Nursing School, Class of 1957.

She was a longtime nurse at Pediatric Associates of Kingston, where her love for her profession and caretaking were evident. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She took great pride in her grandchildren and their accomplishments. She became everyone’s “Noni” when she volunteered to distribute Auntie Anne’s pretzels at Wyoming Area Catholic School lunches.

She will be remembered as a loving mom, grandmother, and nurse. She loved her desserts; ice cream and chocolate were always her favorites. An avid baker herself, she was famous for her pies and chocolate chip cookies. Every Saturday, Penn State football was on her television.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, and her brother, Joseph J. Heston.

Surviving, her sons Andrew J. Mazzarella and wife Sally, of York, PA, and Joseph Mazzarella and wife Tiziana, of Pittston; grandchildren Andi Nicole Mazzarella, Ty Mazzarella, Dr. Alexia Mazzarella, DVM and Bianca Mazzarella; Sisters JoAnn DeRose and Lois Fastiggi and husband Michael, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Debbie and Patrice, as well as the staff at Allied Meade Street and Glenmaura Senior Living.

The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 5-7P.M. at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William St., Pittston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 14, 2025, at 10A.M. in St. Maria Goretti Parish, 42 Redwood Drive, Wilkes-Barre. Those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the church Monday morning. The Parish Rosary Group will recite the Devine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the Church 1/2 hour before the Funeral Mass. All are invited to join them.

Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial book donations can be made in her name to the Wyoming Area Catholic School library, 1690 Wyoming Avenue, Exeter PA 18643, (570) 654-7982.
