Marie Venarucci, 96, of Pittston, PA peacefully entered eternal rest on December 4, 2024. In typical Wednesday night tradition, she was in her home and surrounded by members of her loving family.
Marie’s story began on August 14, 1928. She was born in Corcia, Perugia, Italy, the second child to the late Luigi Ginocchietti and Orsolina Mataloni Ginocchietti.
After immigrating to America at the age of 11, Marie attended Pittston schools and graduated from Pittston High School.
She met her beloved late husband, Raymond Venarucci, in her early 20s. Together, they bought their family home on William Street, co-owned and operated Del-Ray Deli, Pittston, and grew a strong and beautiful family.
Marie was a socialite. She amassed, gathered, and kept in contact with friends and family from near and far. She was a staple of her community, especially her church, the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
She was rooted in a large family of origin and the matriarch of a large family of procreation. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who had her as part of their life.
In addition to Marie’s parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dr. Louis J. Spiccioli, and her brother, Nando Ginocchietti.
Marie is survived by her four daughters: Regina Piccillo (Ben), Pittston; Rosemary Spiccioli, Lakeville; Renee Benedetto (Richard), Devon, PA; and Drs. Rae Marie Venarucci Paranich (Stephen), Clarks Summit. Also, surviving are her ten grandchildren: Dr. Maria Piccillo, Marissa Dorbad (Carl), Marena Molinaro (Matthew), Louis Spiccioli, III, Tina Spiccioli, Michelle Hewitt (Ben), Raymond Spiccioli (Dr. Cassie Spiccioli), Nicole Tracy (Michael), Attys. Matthew Benedetto (Caroline), and Adam Paranich. She also has seven great-grandchildren: Lianna, Giovanna, Bennett, Olivia, Natalie, Benjamin, and Dominic; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To know Marie was to love her. She nourished the hearts, souls, and bellies of many people for many years. Everyone she left behind will forever be grateful for her, and will forever cherish the memories.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 9, 2024 at 9:30am in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. The family will receive friends and relatives from 8:30am until time of mass in the church. Entombment will follow, in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
Marie’s family would like to offer special thanks to FirstLight Home Care and Hospice of the Sacred Heart on her behalf. They provided excellent comfort and support for her and her family through her final days.
Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, Pittston.
We offer our deepest condolences during this time of sorrow. Marie was such a lovely lady.
The DeMuro Family
My deepest condolences to such a beautiful lady. Your mom and my mom were on the same ship coming to America on the Rex. Then it got bombed on the way back. One of your girls gave me the recipe for the Easter sweet bread. I am a friend of Sue Mazzocchi. Again, so sorry for your loss.
