Louis J. Zack, Sr.

Louis J. Zack, Sr. of Pittston passed away Saturday February 22, 2025. He was a resident of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton.


Born in Hudson (old Irish town) Plains Pa, on March 31, 1929. He would have been 96 in March.


Lou was a father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family.


Lou was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Mogavero), father Michael Czahur and his mother Rose (Ziemba) Czahur, brothers; Andrew, Edward, Frank, John, Joseph, Stanley, sisters; Bertha, Helen, Mary, and Valeria.


He is survived by his sons; Louis, Jr., daughter-in-law, JoAnn (Casey) and Gary, daughter-in-law, Adeline (Orloski), grandchildren; Gary, Jr., Aaron, Luke, and Kira, great-grandchildren; Levi, Bianca, Cecilia and many nieces and nephews.


Lou retired from Dots Cleaners, Pittston, in 2004, which he owned and operated with his wife Dorothy. Before running his last business, Lou operated Zack’s Service Station on the corner of Rt. 315 and Jumper Road in Plains Twp. from 1965-1984 which is now Sheetz. Lou was a past president of the Plains Rotary Club and was a member of the Plains American Legion.


A proud veteran, Lou served in the Us Navy aboard the renowned USS Missouri battleship and the US Air Force. He frequently recounted his naval experiences abroad, and his loved ones gathered to listen attentively.


Lou was an excellent mechanic and could figure out how to fix and repair any mechanical machinery & equipment. He was also an intuitive card player who enjoyed playing double deck pinochle, poker, pitch and blackjack at the casino. A devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles, Lou loved watching their games.


Lou attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Louis J. Zack, Sr. to “Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston”, 59 S. Main St., Pittston PA 18640


A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday February 28, 2025 at 10AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Avenue, Dupont, Rev. Father Thomas J. Petro officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the church. At the request of the family, a private graveside interment service will be held.
