Joseph F. Dietrick, Jr.

Joseph F. Dietrick, Jr., 76, of Pittston Township, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, in Allied Services Hospice Center, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittston on September 8, 1946, he was the son of the late Joseph Dietrick, Sr. and Salvatrice (Sally) Bufalino Dietrick.


Joe was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School and Kings College. He served in the US Naval Reserves during the Vietnam Era.


Joe began his career with the US Department of Labor in 1978 and was promoted to Assistant District Director in 1988. He received numerous accommodations and awards including the United States Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement Award. He retired as District Director in 2005.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Salvatore Francis Dietrick and Francis (Frank) Dietrick.


Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Carol Ciali Dietrick; sons, Joseph Dietrick (Kim), Malvern; Jon Dietrick (Kirsten McLellan), Somerville, MA; Jeffrey Dietrick (Jill), Duryea; and Robert Dietrick (Aoi), Carlsbad, CA; grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, and Tessa Dietrick; Cleo Dietrick; Trent and Tyler Woodruff; Emily Dietrick; Juna and Lila Dietrick; brothers, Charles Dietrick (Jane), Pittston Township; and Ronald Dietrick (Catherine), Yatesville; sisters-in-law, Ruth Dietrick, Yatesville; Mary Hughes (Joseph), Pittston Township; and Annette LoBrutto (Joseph), Pittston Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He also leaves behind his loyal and devoted friends who made a special effort to support Joe during this difficult time in particular, Mike Caputo, Leonard Benfante, Sal Licata, and Al Gristina, and most of all, his beloved brother, Ron.

The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, January 9, 2023, from 5pm-7pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 9:30am in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to church Tuesday morning. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
