John Charles Lombardo, Sr.

John Charles Lombardo, Sr., 79, of Pittston Township, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Pittston on June 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary Angelella Lombardo.

John attended Pittston Township High School. He was owner of the former Lombardo’s Diner on the Pittston-By-Pass for thirty-plus years. Many will remember John as the Meatball King, for his famous sausage, his love for Italian music and culture, and his 1959 Red Cadillac Eldorado convertible parked at the diner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Ann Lombardo Norakus.

Surviving are his sons, John C. Lombardo, Jr. and Michael (Amanda) Lombardo; granddaughter, Melania Lombardo, all of Jenkins Township; brothers, Frank Lombardo, Pittston Township and Anthony (Kimberly) Lombardo, Avoca; brother-in-law, Ronald Norakus, Yatesville; fiancé, Anna Rose Broccio, Pittston; former wife, Diane Raineri, Pittston Township; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, January 20, 2023, from 5pm-8pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. Funeral services will begin Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 8:45am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, at 9:30am in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Marello Parish.

Dear John, Michael, Frank, Anthony, Diane and family,

We were saddened to hear about John’s passing. He surely brought a lot of good times to a lot of people when he ran the diner all those years. I’m sure a lot of friends will have a lot of good memories. May he rest in peace and may God bless you all.
