Edward Gawelko, 83, of Harding, PA, passed away Tuesday, November 9th 2021, at his home. He was the devoted husband of Brigitte Kuss Gawelko, having celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August 2021.

Born in Wilkes-Barre Township on March 14, 1938, Edward was the son of the late Stanley Gawelko and Wanda Czereck Gawelko. He was a graduate of Plains High School and proudly served in the US Army for 21 years. He retired as SFC, a veteran of the Vietnam War, having fought in the 1968 Tet Offensive. He was later employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot for 35 years. As an avid fisherman and hunter, Edward loved being outdoors, and left an impression on everyone he met.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Kosmac.
Surviving are his wife, Brigitte Kuss Gawelko; daughter, Kristina Rossi and her husband Joseph, Harding; son, Edward Gawelko, Jr. and his wife Denise, New Tripoli;
grandchildren, Joseph Rossi and his wife Kristen; Ryan Rossi; Alexis Gawelko and Kenneth Gawelko; great-grandchild, Bryson Rossi; brother, Robert Gawelko and his wife Maryann, Hilldale; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, November 18th, 2021, from 4pm-7pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. Interment Friday November 19th, 2021 10am, Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Dallas. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Wounded Warrior Project.
I am so sorry that I will not be able to be there for the services for Mr. Gawelko, a man I have always thought of as a true hero. He was larger than life in my childhood and I feel lucky to have known him and his family as well as I did. He showed us all every day that a man could truly live the ideals he espoused and he will live forever in my heart. Please know that I am thinking of you all today.
