Ann Elizabeth Cawley Kern, 79, of Pittston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Commonwealth Health, Wilkes-Barre.
Ann, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Mitchell Cawley was born in Pittston. Ann graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston, class of 1962. She attended Pittston Hospital School of Nursing. Ann’s initial employment was as a secretary at United Furniture and later employed as a professional cake decorator with Carvel in New York.
Ann was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. She was a woman of great faith and put her trust in the Lord. Ann was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Altar and Rosary Society, Red Hat Society, Wyoming Valley Woman’s Club, and the Pittston Chamber of Commerce Women’s Network. Ann enjoyed being with family and friends, entertaining, arts & crafts, and reminiscing with her former classmates at gatherings. Ann loved attending the dinners with her sisters-in-law. She will be missed lovingly by all the lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her brother, Patrick Joseph Cawley.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Louis Kern, Jr., with whom she shared 56 years of marriage; daughter, Lisa Gureckis (Fiancé Jason Hernandez), Luzerne; son, Louis Kern III (Taianna), CT; grandchildren, Jonathon and Joseph Gureckis and Shain and Samuel Kern all of CT; sisters, Mary Noble, West Pittston, Kathleen (Dee) Gonska (John), Wilkes-Barre; sister-in-law, Lenore Cawley; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and her beloved pet cat, Francis.
The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 2pm-5pm in Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston. Funeral services will be Monday, March 18, 2024, beginning at 9am from the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church.
