Albert Savakinas, Jr.

Albert Savakinas, Jr., 74 years old, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 31, 2021, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of the late Albert Sr. and Rosella Savakinas. Born and raised in Jenkins Township, Al graduated from Northeast High School in 1964 and Penn State University in 1966 with an Associate Degree in Land Surveying. Starting in his profession, Al worked with Jack Grimes for several years. He was self-employed for the next forty years until he retired.

He was a member of the 365th Army Corp of Engineers where he served for 8 years.

As a volunteer of the Jenkins Township Fire Department, he worked his way up the ladder to become Fire Chief, holding that position for eleven years and ending his career as the President of the organization.

Al was involved with giving back over the years of his retirement by volunteering at the Pittston and Jenkins Township food pantries. In addition to his volunteer work, Al enjoyed many things in life from gardening to being the “Jack of all trades” for family and friends. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and walking on the beach at LBI.

Al is leaving behind his high school sweetheart, wife, Jean. They celebrated their 52nd anniversary on May 31, 2021. (Al often joked that they were 15 happy years.) Also surviving are daughters, Sandy Redmond and fiancée David Baldwin; Sharon Savakinas and husband Brian Lanning; and son Robert Savakinas and wife Christy; sister, Irene Cigan and husband Joseph; brother Paul Savakinas and wife Ellen. Al was blessed with five wonderful grandchildren, Zack, David, and Abby Redmond; Bobby and Emmy Savakinas.

According to Al’s wishes, funeral services will be private and there will be no visitation. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston.
