Joseph Thompson Alpaugh, 81, of Hughestown, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Pittston on April 24, 1936, he was the son of the late Oscar Joseph and Sarah Thompson Alpaugh.
He was a graduate of Pittston High School and served in the US Army.
Mr. Alpaugh had worked for 35 years for Warner-Lambert in New Jersey as a machinist in the pharmaceutical industry. He later relocated to North Carolina and retired from Organon Teknika. Upon retirement Joseph returned to Pittston.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston and a third degree member of the JFK Council # 372 Knights of Columbus, Pittston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Edward J. (Ted) Alpaugh; John G. (Jack) Alpaugh; and Leo J. Alpaugh.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Amelia Anna Ninassi Alpaugh; son David Joseph Alpaugh and his wife Mary Ellen, Bahama, NC; daughters Ann Marie Burke and her husband Michael, Durham, NC; and Mary L. Alpaugh and her partner Maria Theodoraki, Morton, PA; grandchildren, Christopher Alpaugh (Jessica); Jessica Marie Klunk (Wes); Caitlin Sy (Jon) and Michael Burke; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 9:00am from Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William Street, Pittston with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Friday, December 29, 2017 from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home.
