Rose Marchegiani, 89, of Jessup, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday morning, July 18, 2017. Born September 12, 1927 to Giuseppe and Maria Mancini Ghilardi, she was the last surviving member of the Ghilardi family of Jessup.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Marchegiani, who died in 1985.
Rose was a survivor, being one of the greatest generation she grew up in Jessup and as a teenager, the family moved to Maryland for work to support the war effort. Later moving back to Jessup where she and Ernie raised their family.
Rose was a well-known, superb cook. She showed her love for her family through cooking delicious Italian meals. She worked alongside her son, Mark at Cordials in Archbald in the late 1980’s preparing fabulous meals for a fine dining experience.
For many years, she was a personal cook for the late Fr. William Purcell at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. In later years, her home was the gathering place on Fridays for family lunches making her famous, well-known pizza and enjoying love and laughter with her brothers and sisters.
Rose loved the New York Yankees, Tennis especially Roger Federer and the Casinos. Her most fun times were had at the Casinos with her friends. She looked forward to trips to Mt. Airy and Mohegan Sun.
She is survived by her three children, Ernestine Biancarelli and her husband Edmund, Aiken, SC; Mark Marchegiani, Archbald; and Anita Marchegiani, Eynon who was her primary caregiver for the past 9 months. Also surviving are grandchildren, Beth A. Kumer and her husband Ken, Brookfield, Wisconsin and Ernie Biancarelli and his wife Johanna Garton, Denver Colorado; great-grandchildren, Emma, Ellie and Eva Rose Kumer and Will and Eden Biancarelli; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Peter, Joseph, Frank and Peter Ghilardi, and sisters Mary Santarelli and Madelyn Cicilioni.
The family wishes to express their extreme gratitude to Dr. Susan M. Biancarelli for all her love, support and care she provided to Rose throughout her lifetime. Susan knew how to take the best total care of our Mother. Rose trusted her implicitly and always felt calm and peaceful in Susan’s presence.
Anita wants to personally thank Susan for working side-by-side with her for the past 20 years, saving Rose’s life many times whether it was rushing down to Mid-Valley ER at 2am or making multiple home visits directly and guiding her care all the way. There are no words to describe the gratitude. Rose knew it, too.
The family also acknowledges and thanks in a special way her caregivers, Andrea Rotell, Carol Cirba, Diane Cirba and Nicole Rotell for their undying support and reliable care of our mother. A special thanks to Lois, Jeanne, Debbie, Lisa and Tara from Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their support.
