Leonard Collins, 81, of Harding, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Suscon Section of Pittston Township, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Burnside Collins.
He attended Avoca High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter; enjoyed spending time in his garden and yard and was truly a jack-of-all-trades. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
In his earlier years, he had a woodworking business. He retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot where he had worked as an inspector.
He was a member of St. Monica’s Parish, West Wyoming; the Disabled American Veterans; and the American Legion, Exeter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers William and Richard Collins and half-brother, Joseph Davis; sisters Elizabeth Holmes and Lillian Kintz and half-sister, Ruth Larnerd.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Doreen Dileo Collins; daughter, Mary Hudock and her husband Don, Exeter; granddaughter, Becky Reggie, Mountaintop; brother Kenneth Collins and his wife Isabelle, Pittston; sister, Martha Azerovich, Pittston and half-sister Isabelle Landmesser, Pittston; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 10am in St. Monica’s Parish, 363 West Eighth Street, West Wyoming. Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9am until the time of mass in the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston.
