Josephine Mancia, 95, of Plains Township, passed away Saturday evening, August 6, 2016 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Born in Gualdo Tadino, Perugia, Italy on April 12, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Louisa Filpetti Bicchielli.
She attended Pittston Township schools. She was an integral part of her husband’s business, Mancia Brothers Market which was located on South Main Street in Pittston for many years. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She always welcomed family and friends to her home. She was a member of St. Joseph Marello Parish, Pittston.
She was a kind and loving woman of faith and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Angelo Mancia on August 6, 1990; and a sister, Ann Marie Marcellini.
Surviving are her son, Ronald Mancia and his wife Jeanne, Coudersport; grandsons, Paul Mancia and his wife Kristin and Craig Mancia and his wife Brenna all of York; a great-granddaughter, Gianna Mancia; sisters, Celia Bicchielli, Pittston Township; Nicoletta Goldsworthy, West Pittston; and Ida LaFratte, Pittston Township; a brother, Frank Bicchielli, Pittston Township; nephew, Joseph Marcellini, who visited her daily; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces; and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 9:30am in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church on Tuesday morning. According to Josephine’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Interment will be in Italian Independent Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston.
