Rita A. Gubitosa, 92, formerly of Pittston Township passed away Thursday evening, February 18, 2016 in Wilkes Barre General Hospital. Born in Pittston on June 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Elisa Collettini Castellani.
She was a graduate of Pittston Township High School, class of 1941.
She was married in 1943, for twenty years, to Edmund Gubitosa. Together they ran the Stone Jug Tavern in Avoca for many years.
She retired from RCA factory in Mountaintop in 1981.
Rita was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Pittston, now St. Joseph Marello Parish.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Edmund Gubitosa; son, Dr. Carmen Gubitosa; brother, Aldo Castellani; sisters, Elda Gillespe and Pauline Gilmartin; brother-in-law, Raymond Zorzi and sister-in-law, Anna Castellani; and her long-time companion, Carl F. Adonizio.
Surviving are her daughters, Elissa Warner and her husband Robert, Mountaintop; Mary Zingaretti and her husband David, Bradenton, Florida; daughter-in-law, Marge Gubitosa, Aldan; grandchildren, Rita Warner, Kurt Warner and his wife Tanya; Christina Gubitosa-Mukkadan and her husband Leon; and Julieanna Gubitosa; sister, Mary Zorzi, Wilkes-Barre; brother-in-law, Jim Gilmartin, Hamburg; Bernie Gillespie, Duryea; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial and Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston.
