Stanley J. Bellanco, Jr.


Stanley J. Bellanco, Jr. passed away February 1 at the Wilkes Barre Veterans Hospital Hospice Unit. Stan was the son of Eleanor and the late Stanley Joseph Bellanco, Sr. of Pittston. He was a 1965 graduate of Pittston High School. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Wright, working as an Interior Communications Electrician Fireman. Following the Navy, Stan worked many years in electronics and communications. He later spent many years in Texas working as construction site manager. His pride was showing some of the, then, modern glass building construction he supervised. While in Texas, he attended Tarrant County Community College.

After moving back to PA, Stan graduated from Luzerne County Community College with a degree in Architectural Engineering Technology. Stan was the "Go to" person in the family for electronic or maintenance issues. Stan volunteered at the VA Community Living Center for 13 years. He made many friends at the Center while helping with activities or accompanying the guys on trips. His final days were spent in that same Center on the Hospice wing, receiving care, visits and well wishes from many of the staff and residents who knew him and worked with him. In addition to his mother, Stan leaves behind his sister, Sarina Myers(husband Dan) of Coopersburg, PA., Nephew, Luke Myers, Niece, Nell Myers Barker (husband Alex), Great nephews Aidan, Emmett Barker and Great niece, Hailey Barker, and Niece Gina Myers McCrory (husband Matt), and Great niece, Tessa. Stan was a quiet, behind the scenes kind of guy. His love of family ran very deep. He was an avid advocate for anyone who he felt was treated poorly or needed help. Though he had no children, Stan, cherished reports of accomplishments of nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Stan loved to accompany his nephew Luke to many of Luke's Special Olympic events. Stan loved Photography, flower gardening and animals. He won several awards for plants at County Fairs. He was an active member of The AMVETS Post 4909. Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Eucharist Church, 535 North Main Street, Pittston on Monday 2/8/16 at 10:00 AM. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church on Monday morning. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Gift Processing Administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172 or to LOWE SYNDROME ASSOCIATION, PO Box 417, Chicago Ridge, IL 60415. Arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William Street, Pittston.
